Convenience Store Giant

At Storage Solutions, we are all about selling solutions. When our customer needed racking for their convenience store warehouse in a high seismic zone, but didn’t have the room for the extra large base-plates, our team was able to solve the problem with tube rack!

Their Problem / Our solution:

The customer needed new racking in a new warehouse to serve a convenience store giant.  The warehouse is located in a high seismic zone, and standard racking would require very large base-plates.

Our team utilized tube racking, and the base-plate size was greatly reduced allowing more product space on the floor.

Products installed

  • Tube Rack

I know it has been awhile, but we are back with a new “Project Spotlight” series and we’ve got quite the list of projects to showcase in the next few weeks!  I am going to start by taking you down to Mississippi, where we are dismantling nearly 2,700 pallet rack bays and over 2,000 bin sections that make up a 15,000 sq ft two-story bin mezzanine. This also includes three sets of stairs and one vertical reciprocating lift.

Objective: The customer is closing their current distribution center and opening multiple distribution centers nationwide. Our team is tearing down and buying back the used equipment in the current facility.

Storage Solutions has a new intern!  I would like to take a few minutes this week to introduce him to everyone.  Let’s get to know a little about James.

DSCN6692Where are you from?  “I am from Elkhart, and I went to high school at Concord High.  I am currently attending Ball State University where I study Marketing.”

What brought you to Storage Solutions?  “I first came into contact with Storage Solutions at a BSU Career Fair.  After coming in for an interview, I noticed that Storage Solutions is a great company, and is a market leader in the material handling industry.  I decided to accept an internship position because I believe this experience will assist my own personal and professional development.”

What has been your most interesting experience so far?  “My most interesting moment so far has been going down to the jobsite in Greenwood, IN to see a new distribution center that we are outfitting with used pallet rack.  I really enjoyed seeing how we turn a big empty warehouse into a fully equipped, fully functional distribution center.”

Tell us something interesting about yourself.  “I have an identical twin brother.”

On behalf of everyone here at Storage Solutions, welcome to the team!

On a side note, we will be adding more material handling equipment to the clearance section of our website every week.  Make sure to take a few minutes to see if there is anything on there that catches your eye!

Thanks for joining us this week.  I hope you all check back again next Thursday.

For this weeks blog, we would like to take a few minutes to cover some keywords and definitions that are common in the material handling world.  Remember, Storage Solutions is here to help you with all of your material handling needs, so feel free to give us a call at 866.474.2001 if you have any questions.

Warning_forkLift_TruckBatch ManufacturingThe production of parts or material in discrete runs, or batches, interspersed with other production operations or runs of other parts or materials.

Distribution Center–Intermediate warehouse(s) where products from different sources are assembled for shipment and distribution to specific customer locations.

End-of-Aisle Picking System–High-density mechanized binnable parts systems such as mini load or carousel units provide dense storage and maximize the use of available storage height. These systems are particularly useful when high transaction rates and large inventory levels result in unacceptably high travel times for man-to-part order picking methods. By delivering the part to the order picker, operator travel time is eliminated. These systems are also effective in situations requiring additional packaging, checking, or pallet-flow-racks1971-7112processing which would be impractical to provide on an order-picking industrial truck.

Logistics–The science of planning and carrying out the movement and maintenance of operations. Deals with the design and development, acquisition, storage, movement, distribution, maintenance and disposition of material.

build-a-bearBuild-A-Bear Workshop® wanted to enhance their distribution capability to support the future growth of their business. They built their first company-owned Bearhouse distribution center near Columbus, Ohio to meet this need.

Storage Solutions worked closely with Build-A-Bear Workshop and Kurt Salmon Associates to get the Bearhouse up and running on time, even with unpredictable winter weather.

“Our new state-of-the-art distribution center allows us to not only improve inventory control and management, realize greater efficiencies and reduce operating costs, but also has been designed to accommodate projected growth well into the future. Storage Solutions provided a warehouse configuration that can change and grow as we do.” said Build-A-Bear Workshop Director Bearhouse Operations, Aaron Wilcox.

“Storage Solutions was a true partner, not just a vendor,” explains Sean Whitehouse of Kurt Salmon Associates. “They delivered outstanding customer service at a very competitive price. During the planning phase, they provided innovative suggestions to fine tune the material handling equipment configuration and keep costs down.”
