At Storage Solutions, the well-being and safety of our employees and customers is our top priority. We recognize the role we play in the supply chain industry and in the communities in which we live and work, and are taking steps to help keep our families, colleagues, and friends safe.

Storage Solutions is here for you! We have created a COVID-19 Task Team to ensure our continuation of services and to monitor updates from the authorities, including the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. In the meantime, our teams are working hard remotely to provide solutions, manage timelines, and work with our partners to the best of our ability during these challenging times.

We have a fantastic team and on behalf of everyone at Storage Solutions, we are committed to being your partner for all of your industrial storage and material handling equipment needs.

Let us know if we can help you solve any of the challenges facing your business.

design-solutions-sku-proliferation

There are few industries that are not affected by SKU proliferation. Within industries ranging from consumer goods to life science, there are a number of supply chain complexities that come with an increase in SKUs. Typically, SKU proliferation results after a company acquisition or a new product launch. Alternatively, SKU proliferation may occur as a result of adding new varieties of current offerings or changes in seasonal demand.

SKU proliferation can cause headaches for warehouse managers who now need to anticipate new order frequencies and volumes. To combat SKU proliferation, should you completely reorganize your warehouse? Should you make minor adjustments and re-evaluate later? Where and when should you begin?

You Always Start From the Start.

The best way to battle SKU proliferation – and the inefficiencies caused by not optimizing your setup – is to start with the right design solution. The right design solution will match your storage capacity with your inventory profile, taking into account the dynamics of the optimal pick process.

By beginning with a Facility and Storage Assessment, you set yourself up for success by engineering a game plan before any action takes place. Also, we take into account other variables that can affect the optimal performance of a warehouse. Typically, we talk to clients about trends they see with smaller shipping packages, changes in service expectations, and other external factors that can reshape a distribution network.

What Else Should You Factor In?

Also, this is a great time to introduce Smart Slotting to our clients. Smart Slotting uses factors such as labor costs, space costs, replenishment costs, and equipment costs to provide you with the most efficient inventory slotting plan. All operational costs are taken into account to define the lowest possible throughput cost per item for your facility. This

We have found that examining all variables at this stage leads to a more efficient warehouse. Ultimately, the right answer comes from taking a step back and taking a look at “the forest, not the trees.” At this point, warehouse managers need to ask themselves: Is now the right time to introduce automation? Do you need to increase dense storage? Are you running out of shelving space?

Ask the Experts.

Storage Solutions experts are here to answer these questions. We have the knowledge and experience to tailor the right solution to suit your needs. Especially if your warehouse does not have an industrial engineer on staff (and not many do), the correct answer may not occur naturally. However, the right answer will likely come from an expert who knows the ins and outs of facility redesign. It comes from making changes based on where demand from your customers is shifting.

More often than not, we hear clients say, “I am running out of storage space.” Our answer is typically, “Are you? How well are you using the space you have?”

The answer is not always rocket science. However, the right solution usually is simple, smart, and strategic. That is what we are here to do: Connect you with that solution. Contact us today to get started!

It is hard to believe that MODEX 2020 has already come and gone! The biennial conference was a showcase for innovation, strategic thinking, and trends shaping the future of the supply chain industry.

We sent about three dozen of our team members – from project managers to outside sales to even members of our executive team – to MODEX 2020. Nearly every area of our business can benefit from networking, growing, and learning about the pains and successes underway in the world of material handling. Our organization takes events like MODEX particularly seriously. There are only a few opportunities each year to bring together the top minds and businesses in our industry. We don’t look at a conference like this as a sales generating exercise. It is a rare instance to share our story and learn from others without that pressure to land a sale.

MHI organizes this event, which alternates each year with Pro-Mat, another fantastic annual convention. They did a great job bringing nearly 1,000 exhibitors and countless industry professionals together. Even with an external situation like the coronavirus pandemic underway, the entire week was handled professionally with a style and excitement that will fuel our entire spring and summer.

You can get a sense of the scope of the event with some cool scenes captured on social media. Be sure to follow MHI on all the major social channels and search the hashtag #MODEX2020 to get a feel for how this event showcased the best and brightest in our industry.

The next big conference for the material handling industry is on the calendar for the International Foodservice Distributors Association taking place this fall. We will be there, but if you want to connect with us before then, click here and let us know how we can provide solutions for every square foot of your warehouse.

MODEX 2020 is right around the corner! From March 9 through the 12th, the World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, is going to host nearly 1,000 exhibits of the latest and greatest technology and equipment for the supply chain industry.

MODEX is the biggest event of the year organized by MHI. MHI is the nation’s largest material handling, logistics, and supply chain association. According to the MODEX 2020 website:

“As the speed of manufacturing, supply chain, and transportation operations continues to accelerate, the future of our industry depends on today’s forward-thinking decisions. From illuminating education to next-generation technology and equipment in action, MODEX lets you see what’s coming — and take advantage of it to power your supply chain with endless possibilities for years to come.”

Connect. Learn. Rinse. Repeat.

The Storage Solutions team is going to be there in full force. We look forward to connecting with our partners and vendors from around the country. It is a great time to catch up and learn from each other’s developments. We are also looking forward to meeting and learning from new companies that we have yet to connect with!

Our Vice President of Operations, Nathan Storey, is excited to be a Tour Guide for Student Day. On March 10, Student Day offers CTE, high school, and university students to learn from real-world discussions from supply chain industry experts. Also, they will complete with a guided tour of the show floor and networking opportunities from professionals who can support their career growth.

In addition, there is so much more taking place that week! From the conference to the key speakers, we’re excited at the opportunity to learn from our industry’s best and brightest. Plus, Peyton Manning will be there! The conference is one of the highlights of our year for many members of our team.

Let’s Talk!

So, if you want to talk with a Storage Solutions representative at MODEX 2020, we can arrange that! Just send us an email, and we can connect you with an appropriate team member sometime during the week.

Above all, we look forward to seeing you there! Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with the event, or follow the hashtag #MODEX2020 for more fun from the week.
