The Role of a Project Manager at Storage Solutions with David Hauck
David Hauck, Director of Sales Support at Storage Solutions, highlights the critical role project managers play in delivering seamless solutions at Storage Solutions.
Introduction
My name is David Hauck and I’ve been a Project Manager for over six years at Storage Solutions but recently transitioned into a role as our Director of Sales Support. Now that I’ve stepped into the management role, what I’ve really learned is that there’s a lot more associated at a higher level that we have to execute from a training standpoint. We’ve been a growing company here over the last 12 to 18 months since our acquisition with the Jungheinrich Group, and that transition has definitely allowed me in my role to really look at the bigger picture and kind of see from a process standpoint how we can be better at executing projects for our customer that. Our team has really focused over the last six months on that.
What responsibilities does a project manager at Storage Solutions have?
The project managers are in charge of basically owning and maintaining all of the costs associated with the project. Whether that be the materials, the freight, the labor, the permitting, or the permit fees that are associated with the project. Then on the back end, on the post-sale side, they’re in charge of executing and communicating with the customer, making sure that all of our ship dates are in line with the project coordinators and making sure that we just handle the execution in a seamless manner. We’re in constant communication with our customers and our account managers, being the liaison between those two and just making sure that everything is seamless from beginning to end on a project.
What can a customer expect communication-wise from one of our project managers?
Our project managers do a great job of building progress update emails with kind of visual cues on where we’re at within the lifecycle of a project. We’re giving them a daily or weekly update on where we’re at and then we pass that information along to the customer. So they can understand and own the communication with their operations teams. Our project managers set the tone in the industry from a response standpoint. We’re usually getting the calls in the field, and we’re immediately responding and taking action on those items that come up. There’s no project that ever runs 100% smoothly. So, we’re always taking that information, and we’re processing it quickly.
How do our project managers differentiate SSI and help us serve our customers?
Team collaboration is a key to our success. It’s pretty special how experienced our team is. We have brand new project managers that have just recently joined the team, you know, six months on the job, up to, you know, 18 to 20 years of experience. They’ve communicated with their customers and seen a lot in the industry. So they know how to respond quickly and they know how to execute a project to the best of their ability in order to make the customer a satisfied customer.
What separates us from the rest of the industry is our response time. The sense of urgency that we have, and then just the overall attention to detail, is what a project manager is going to bring. We really focus on pre-construction meetings and installation drawings. We really try to pull together a utility belt of tools for our installers to be successful. And then again, just from an execution standpoint, just knowing where the budget is and knowing where we’re going to come across issues and just be forward thinking as a project manager, as opposed to reactive, we’re being proactive.
