Buy Used Warehouse Equipment SSI Warehouse

We are always looking for used equipment!  So why not let us pay you for your unwanted/unneeded materials?

Storage Solutions is your partner when it comes to buying used equipment.  We want to help you move your old or used materials for a competitive price.

While we appreciate the opportunity to buy any used equipment, there are a few things that we really need on an ongoing basis.

Teardrop Uprights

Uprights are our one of our most popular products at Storage Solutions. Because of that, quality uprights are always in high demand.

Teardrop beams

8′ beams are the most common, so we are always on the lookout for them.  As an integral part to nearly every project, we like to have quality beams in inventory at all times.

Wire Decking

Why Wire Decking? At Storage Solutions, we prefer to use wire decking for a number of reasons.  Since safety is paramount for us, wire decking is much better for fire code compared to the traditional wood pallets.  They are also more cost-effective and they drop right into place, making installation a breeze.

There are many different finishes that can be applied to wire decking. We are greatful that our partner, Nashville Wire, took a minute to elaborate on the different options!

wire deckingPowder Coating

Powder Coating is the most common finish for wire decking, specifically the color gray. Powder coating applies a free-flowing, dry powder to a cleaned metal part. The part is then heat cured to allow the powder to flow and form a “skin”. It is a tough, durable finish.  Powder coatings biggest benefit, apart from its cost effectiveness, is its ability to produce parts in virtually any color. Nashville Wire has a variety of colors; some of the most common being black, white, and beige.

Hot-Dip Galvanized

With this option, the entire wire deck is submerged in a bath of molten zinc. The finish produces the thick, durable matte gray finish that you see on highway barriers, light post, and chain link fencing. This is the most common finish applied to metal products that are used in an outdoor environment.  While it is the most durable and offers the highest level of corrosion resistance, it is also the most expensive.

Pre-Galvanized

When wire decking is pre-galvanized it is fabricated from hot-dipped galvanized wire and coil steel. Since the zinc was applied to the raw materials before they were turned into a wire deck, the zinc covering can be compromised any where the wire and coil steel are cut or welded. Despite this weakness, this is still an acceptable finish for most applications.  Exposed, raw steel on the deck is still protected from corrosion by the remaining zinc.  This finish is comparable in cost to powder coating.

Zinc Electroplating

Zinc Electroplating is a thin and reflective coating. In this application, the wire decking is plated with a thin protective layer of zinc. Because the layer of zinc is thin and easily depleted by the oxidation process, it is unsuitable for outdoor applications. It should only be used in dry climates. There is a large amount of chemical waste produced by this process so it is highly regulated in the U.S.

wire deckingYes, wire decking was covered in a previous post, but it is such an important component of pallet rack that I thought it was necessary to re-inform you, if you will, of the basics of wire deck!

Wire decking is used in pallet rack and other types of storage rack. Made from steel wire, wire decking gives you the flexibility to store a variety of pallet sizes.  It provides a solid surface while also maintaining an open surface which allows the overhead sprinkler system to suppress fires without restriction. Wire decking is easy to install and is maintenance free.

The wire deck is created with welded wire mesh and integrated support channels. The decking sits on top of the beams to create a shelf on which to store palletized inventory. It can be created to accommodate any depth of rack or beam length. It can also be designed for a range of load bearing capacities.

Buying used wire decks can be an extremely easy way to cut down on expenses. Storage Solutions has a large selection of used beams, used uprights, and used wire decks for you to choose from. We specifically store our pallet racks inside our warehouse; that way we can ensure that all of our customers receive the highest quality of used wire decking available.

Efficiency is the title for the fourth edition of my blog because that’s the main thing I’ve accomplished over the past three weeks. Not necessarily learning more product or industry information but getting better with the things I’ve already learned. It might sound boring but it’s pretty important.

multitaskingIt’s important because efficiency allows me more time to focus on new projects, in turn, giving me more opportunities to learn product and industry information. So as you can see, efficiency directly relates to me progressing with this business. For example, I’ve gotten much better coordinating with our installation crews and keeping a mental note of what phase different projects are in and which people are where. When I first started, things moved fast and I had a hard time taking in information without feeling like my head would explode. Now, things still move fast, but I know the information a little better so it’s easier to take in and I can do the coordinating quicker.

To end this Blog I wanted to do something a little different.  Because I’m still learning the business/industry I thought it would be interesting, and possibly comforting, to hear some rookie stories from others around the office.  It could’ve been a story that stuck out in someone’s mind, maybe the day everything clicked, maybe a mistake they made, whatever they remember from being the new person in this industry.  I decided on contrasting inputs, one person fairly new to the industry and another who’s been around the block once or twice. Enjoy!

Dan Storey, Project Manager – 2 years with Storage Solutions

“My first (of many) rookie mistakes was an oversight on lead time.  I had a customer who ordered some racking from Storage Solutions, but we had to order the wire decking new.  I forgot to accommodate for the manufacturing lead time when I scheduled for the installation.  Long story short, we sent down the used uprights, beams, and hardware with our installers, but there were no decks for them to put on the racks.  So, we had to scramble to find available equipment that would work for this job because the customer needed it done ASAP.  The story has a happy ending though… we were able to get them the products necessary to finish the install and they were happy with the end result.  I also learned a valuable lesson about lead times in the process!”

Kevin Rowles, President – 17 Years with Storage Solutions

“This may not be comforting to you, but after 17 years in this industry I still feel like a “rookie”!  There is much for us all to learn and multiple opportunities in our ever changing business world – but, you must have passion for what you do, keep your eyes open, and maintain your entrepreneurial attitude!   It’s overwhelming at times – but would have it no other way…that challenging spirit is contagious around here and contributes to our success…and headaches!  (also contributes to waking up in the middle of the night – just keep your notepad handy and go back to bed :)”

This Week’s Term Of The Week:  Wire Decking

Wire decking is used in pallet rack and other types of storage rack. Made from galvanized steel, wire decking enables you to store a wider variety of items. This aspect of pallet racking also protects against falling inventory that may result from pallet bundlers or damaged/misplaced pallets.

Wire DeckingThe rack is created with welded wire mesh with integrated support channels that are welded to the bottom of the span that is between the rack beams and carries the load. It can be created to accommodate any depth of rack or beam length. It can also be designed/built for a range of load bearing capacities.

When it comes to the material handling industry, it can often times be difficult to keep up with the terminology we use from day to day.  We have decided to start posting a Term Of The Week to break it down in terms everyone can understand.

This week’s Term Of The Week:

Selective Pallet RackSELECTIVE RACK

Standard selective pallet rack is designed for the purpose of the bulk storage of palletized goods and equipment.  All types of pallet racking create some level of increase in storage density, storing materials in horizontal bays.  Pallet rack is an essential and ever-present element in most modern warehouse, manufacturing facilities, retail centers and other storage and distribution facilities.

Elements of Selective Rack:

  • Pallet Rack Uprights – the vertical pieces of these storage units, which are typically anchored to the floor and provide the support for the racking system.
  • Pallet Rack Beams – clip into the uprights and provide the horizontal support in these units.
  • Wire Decks – are the final element of these units, which sit on top of the beams and create the sheld that the pallets and/or goods sit on.

We here at Storage Solutions would like to devote this week’s blog to our newest clearance package.  Be sure to check out the clearance section of our website to see if there are any additional clearance packages still available!  This week, we put together a package of used pallet rack that will provide an incredibly cost efficient solution for your small to mid-size storage needs.  Let’s take a look at the equipment.
