One area that we have expanded on quite a bit recently is our Design Solution process. We’ve always had a team of experts in place to help you create a design layout that is right for your facility, and that isn’t changing. However, we are excited that in recent years we have grown that team to allow us to offer more complex design capabilities.

Design Solution Processes & Offerings

One way that we can work side by side with you for your design needs is our C-A-R-E-S process. Through this process, we can point out specific operational challenges and ways to address those challenges. We will also help you prepare for future growth or change that you will inevitably face down the line. The C-A-R-E-S process is a customer-focused process in which we do the following:

Broken Case Picking

Broken case picking is becoming more prevalent in almost all industries, creating operational challenges for many companies. When assisting with the design of your broken case picking solution, we ensure that we create the most efficient and cost-effective solution for your facility.

Broken Case Picking Design Criteria

When going through a new facility design, or an existing facility optimization, we have a set of criteria that we utilize to determine the right solution to meet your specific needs.

Our team will gain a thorough understanding of the operational challenges that you are currently experiencing, such as labor, competition, market challenges and more. We then look at the overall volume levels that you are seeing in daily activity; such as the number of orders, the number of line items, and the number of units picked, packed and shipped on a typical day.

After understanding the volume of your operation, we also take a look at the order profiles. We look at the number of line items on a typical order, and the number of units per line item. The order profiles help us to determine the most efficient picking methodologies to apply to your operational solution. We break down your demand to the SKU level to identify ideal storage mediums and utilize ABC stratification to create a slotting plan that will maximize pick efficiency.

Day in the life Header Kyle

I am Kyle Rowles, and this summer, I am working for Storage Solutions as the Marketing Intern.

About the Job

In this position, I help to oversee and run the social media accounts for the company by posting work anniversaries, #WarehouseWednesdays, and holiday posts.  In addition, I assist the Project Managers in submitting leads and proposals into our Storage Server system. Doing this allows the Project Managers to focus more on the customer service aspect of their job, and I focus on the submissions into our system. I also send out internal email blasts, while also writing and publishing different blogs (i.e. holiday hours, special events).

Personal Information

I am from Huntley, Illinois, but temporarily live in Noblesville, Indiana for the summer. I go to school at Ball State University with a major in Logistics and Supply Chain Management with a minor in Six Sigma and plan on graduating in May of 2020. Last summer, I started working for Storage Solutions for a summer job working in their warehouse.

During the summer, I enjoy playing slow pitch softball on a weekly basis. It helps to get my mind off of work, and more towards enjoying my summer however I can. During the school year, I play club volleyball and take on any leadership roles that I see fit within time and knowledge in my fraternity. I am very glad to be working for this awesome company for the second summer in a row! The people I have met and the things that I have learned well exceeded my expectations. What a great company to work for!

Tight Deadlines in Flint Michigan

Our latest warehouse project took us up north to Pure Michigan. With tight deadlines and the need to stay open during installation, we had our work cut out for us.

  • Wire Mesh Backstops
  • Wire Decking

Project Details

The customer had a firm deadline for the project’s completion. Storage Solutions had to install runs of racking in one area, then move to another area to install. This was so the customer associates could load the racking and train on picking while we completed the install. This was an active facility throughout the entire project.

SSI install leaders and project managers worked directly with the customer to ensure a fluid transition.  This allowed us to keep install moving along efficiently while the customer could also stay up with daily operations. In the end, we were able to complete the project 4 days ahead of schedule!
