As we start another week here at Storage Solutions, we are excited to introduce you to a new blog series called Storage Solutions: Project Spotlight.  Our goal is to provide our customers and readers the opportunity to witness a project from start to finish and see first-hand what sets Storage Solutions apart.

As the nation’s leading provider in material handling and logistics needs, we have always been committed to providing the best possible results for our customers.  From the initial quoting process to the final details during installation, total customer satisfcation is our number one priority.

To kick off our Project Spotlight series, we’re going to focus on Project H located in Indiana.  Stay tuned for the first look!

After a few weeks of posting our open positions, we have come to the realization that the way we describe some of our job titles might not line up with those in other industries.  So to change it up a bit, we’re re-titling our Project Manager position to Inside Sales Assistant.

The job description remains the same… our inside sales assistant would assist our sales staff in quoting, project management and overseeing details from a project’s start to finish. Under this adjusted title, we hope to find more candidates that would be a great addition to our Storage Solutions team!

What Is Drive-In Pallet Rack?

Drive-in pallet rack functions by allowing  the forklift operator to enter the racking system from one side in order to pick up or pull out pallets.  While this type of rack is typically subjected to more physical damage from forklifts, drive-in pallet rack an optimize space effectively.  Drive-in rack requires fewer aisles, which allows for up to 75% more pallets to be stored in a given amount of space (compared to last week’s Term Of The Week, selective pallet rack).

Drive-in pallet rack utilizes what is referred to as a LIFO system of storage (last in, first out).  This is what allows you to store a large amount of similar pallets in a small area, giving you increased storage density when compared to standard selective pallet rack.

It may not be an Oscar, but we’re pretty excited to have recently been awarded the Nashville Wire 2010 Premiere Dealer Award!  We take a lot of pride in our partnerships, and Nashville Wire has been a consistently positive one since the beginning.  We got on the phone with Nashville Wire’s Vice President of Sales, Steve Johnson, to find out why Storage Solutions received this award and what role our partnership plays in their company’s success.

Nashville Wire

According to Steve, there were three main criteria required for a company to be considered for this award:

  • Sales Volume
  • Communication
  • Professionalism

“Obviously sales volume is an important characteristic when it comes to these things,” Johnson said.  “In 2010, Storage Solutions far surpassed other partners in promoting Nashville Wire products.”

Over the years, we have prided ourselves on the fact that our teamwork, customer service and start-to-finish attention to detail parallels no other material handling company. According to Johnson, “Storage Solutions has consistently kept a great communication record,” from engineering, to quoting and lead follow-up.

“The professionalism from the beinning of the quoting process through the last step of the installation has been tremendous,” Johnson said.  “Everything in there is flawless.  [The] support staff makes the difference for your sales team.”

When it comes to the material handling industry, it can often times be difficult to keep up with the terminology we use from day to day.  We have decided to start posting a Term Of The Week to break it down in terms everyone can understand.

This week’s Term Of The Week:

Selective Pallet RackSELECTIVE RACK

Standard selective pallet rack is designed for the purpose of the bulk storage of palletized goods and equipment.  All types of pallet racking create some level of increase in storage density, storing materials in horizontal bays.  Pallet rack is an essential and ever-present element in most modern warehouse, manufacturing facilities, retail centers and other storage and distribution facilities.

Elements of Selective Rack:

  • Pallet Rack Uprights – the vertical pieces of these storage units, which are typically anchored to the floor and provide the support for the racking system.
  • Pallet Rack Beams – clip into the uprights and provide the horizontal support in these units.
  • Wire Decks – are the final element of these units, which sit on top of the beams and create the sheld that the pallets and/or goods sit on.
